Step 1 — Run the built-in EAC repair tool (correct method)
Most fixes start here, and most people run it wrong. EAC ships an installer at: C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat\EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe But EAC has two flavors now — classic EAC and EAC-EOS (Epic Online Services). They install to different folders and have different repair binaries. For modern games (Fortnite, ARC Raiders, Fall Guys, Rocket League) the EOS variant lives at: C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS\ Close the game completely, then run the matching installer as Administrator. Pick your game from the dropdown and click Repair Service. If the dropdown is empty, EAC's registry is corrupted — skip to Step 4 (clean reinstall).
Step 2 — Fix the EAC Reference ID error
The 'Reference ID' is a hash EAC generates to identify the exact failure that crashed your game. It is NOT a ban code and you do not need to email it anywhere. Google the reference ID directly — Epic's database returns the underlying error. The three most common reference IDs map to: • File integrity failure → reinstall EAC (Step 1) and verify game files in the launcher. • Driver / kernel module conflict → MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, RGB software, OBS Game Capture, virtual audio cables, and overclock utilities all trigger this. Close them before launching. • Anti-cheat collision → another anti-cheat is running. Vanguard, FACEIT AC, BattlEye, Vanguard remnants, even old VAC modules can collide. Reboot fully before launching an EAC game.
Step 3 — 'The EOS SDK could not be found' / 'EasyAntiCheat is not installed'
These two errors are usually the same root cause: the launcher started the game before EAC finished installing, or an antivirus deleted the EAC service. Fix: 1. Add C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat and EasyAntiCheat_EOS to your antivirus exclusions (Windows Defender → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions). 2. Right-click the game in your launcher → Verify Files / Verify Integrity. This re-downloads EAC. 3. Open services.msc and confirm 'EasyAntiCheat' and 'EasyAntiCheat_EOS' are both present and set to Manual. If missing, run Step 1. 4. Reboot. The EAC service registers on boot.
Step 4 — Clean reinstall (when nothing else works)
Uninstall both EAC variants: C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat\EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe → Uninstall C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS\EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe → Uninstall Then wipe leftovers: • Delete both EasyAntiCheat folders manually if they remain. • Open regedit and delete: HKLM\SOFTWARE\EasyAntiCheat and HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EasyAntiCheat (and the _EOS variants). • Reboot. • Launch the game — the launcher will reinstall EAC fresh.
Step 5 — Windows-side requirements EAC silently checks
Modern EAC (especially the EOS variant used by Fortnite and ARC Raiders) requires: • TPM 2.0 enabled in BIOS • Secure Boot enabled (UEFI mode, not Legacy) • Hyper-V / Virtual Machine Platform OFF (it triggers VM detection) • Windows Exploit Protection at default values (custom settings often break EAC) • Latest Windows updates (KB cumulative updates fix EAC-side regressions) These checks fail silently with vague errors. When the error isn't EAC's fault
